Description: Deputy U.S. Marshal Gatewood was shot when he and three marshals were sent to procure property by court order. The posse of marshals were attacked by a party of over 20 people, including members of the family whose property was procured. Deputy Marshal Gatewood was shot and died at the scene. Deputies Johnson, Stockton and Ball were also shot but survived.
