Description: Deputy Garza and his wife, Elida, were on their way home when Deputy Garza stopped a suspect for speeding. The suspect drew a gun on Deputy Garza and his wife and led them to a farmhouse where he fatally shot both of them in the head. The suspect, a serial bank robber, held a family hostage before fleeing the scene but was captured that same day. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to death. In 1983, the US Supreme Court overturned the death sentence to murder with malice aforethought and sentenced him to 99 years.
