Description: Detective Gaffney was responding to a call of two suspicious males attempting to steal a car from a garage. When he and his partner arrived at the scene the suspects immediately opened fire. Detective Gaffney was shot in the right lung, and died from the injury. Two years later, his assailant was convicted of murder in the second degree and sentenced to life in prison. His assailant was also implicated in the murder of railroad Detective David Barnes.
