Description: Sergeant Garland was killed in an automobile accident while on Highway 97 South in Toppenish, Washington. Sergeant Garland was running errands for the department when a suspect driver tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. Sergeant Garland took evasive action and tried to avoid the accident but collided head-on with the suspect's vehicle. Sergeant Garland was pronounced dead at the scene.
