Description: Sheriff Gatlin and Deputy Curtis Miller went to an establishment with a search warrant to investigate reports of illegal shipments of whiskey. The storekeeper led the lawmen to the back of the store, then attacked them. Sheriff Gatlin drew his weapon but the suspect gained control of it and shot Sheriff Gatlin once in the chest with his own gun. Sheriff Gatlin died at the scene. Deputy Miller escaped unharmed. The suspect surrendered.
