Description: Chief Gilbreath was shot accidentally when his pistol fell from its holster and discharged as he attempted to repair a heavy chain in a jail cell. The bullet passed through his left wrist and then struck him in the head. Chief Gilbreath did not regain consciousness and died the next day.
