Description: Patrolman Gargan and rookie partner Officer Hughes responded to a prowler call in the Greenwich Village neighborhood. Patrolman Gargan and Officer Hughes enter the residence and found a 18-year-old parolee pointing a flare pistol loaded with a 12-gauge shotgun. Patrolman Gargan was shot once in the chest and died while en route to the hospital.
