Description: Private Goff was shot by a man he had arrested for disturbing the peace. As Private Goff escorted the suspect to jail, his horse became lame. As the horse fell the suspect grabbed Private Goff's rifle and shot him. Private Goff died of his injuries the next day. The suspect fled to Mexico and was never captured.
