Description: Deputy U.S. Marshal Getchell was attempting to serve a notice of judgment against a dredging company in Nome, AK, but never arrived at his destination and did not return to the field office. Deputy Marshal Getchell took a rifle and ammunition but did not have an overcoat. A search party ventured into the woods and searched for days within a 20-mile radius. His body was found on a trail five days later. It is believed that he took a wrong turn in the woods and lost his way. The cause of death was determined to be heart failure.
