Description: Deputy Sheriffs Green and William Kelly were ambushed and shot as they searched a settlement for an organized gang of cattle thieves. The desperadoes burned the bodies of Deputy Green and Deputy Kelly and scattered the ashes. Their horses were also shot and thrown into a ravine. Eight suspects were arrested. Five were convicted of the murder and sentenced to hang. Their sentences were later commuted to life in prison.
