Description: Detectives Hefner and William Davenport responded to a domestic disturbance call. As the detectives struggled with the suspect for control of the weapon, the gun discharged, striking Detective Hefner in the throat. Detective Davenport continued to struggle with the suspect and the gun fired again, killing the suspect. Detective Hefner was transported to the hospital where he remained in critical condition until his death 26 days later.
