Description: Police Officer Helms was escorting a mental patient to the Stockton, California State Hospital. Suddenly, the train they were riding in collided with a three-car work train and derailed. Officer Helms sustained a fractured rib which punctured his lung. Officer Helms did not return to work but had surgery to relieve the pressured lung. Officer Helms' health continued to deteriorate until his death four months later.
