Description: City Marshal Howard was shot as he and Constable W.H. Hicks investigated a shooting at a local residence. A suspect from inside the residence opened fire at the law enforcement officials, striking Marshal Howard. Marshal Howard returned fire, killing his assailant. Marshal Howard died two days later of his injuries. Constable Hicks was also shot but recovered from his injuries.
