Description: Chief of Police Hamrick was shot when he entered a prison cell to quiet two boisterous inmates. The inmate, who had been arrested for public intoxication, pulled a hidden gun and shot Chief Hamrick in the chest. Sheriff Suttle and Deputy Kendrick were also wounded but survived. Chief Hamrick died a few hours later. The inmate was convicted of first degree murder and executed by hanging.
