Description: Deputy Hanks attempted to arrest a juvenile who had escaped from the county prison farm. The 14-year-old fled into a restaurant, grabbed the owner's pistol and hid in the back room. Deputy Hanks entered the room and lit a match. The suspect fired three shots, the last striking Deputy Hanks in the chest. Deputy Hanks died at the scene. The suspect was arrested and tried in a court of law. He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
