Description: On January 2, 1972 Officer Holbert and Officer Robert Bush processed an accident scene on Buckeye road and after interviewing the motorists involved, detained the driver that was at fault. The intoxicated man produced a handgun and shot at both officers who returned fire and killed him. Officer Bush was shot in the hand but survived. Officer Holbert was shot in the head and underwent 12 hours of surgery to have the bullet fragments removed. Over the years he received four additional operations in which portions of his brain were removed. Officer Holbert died of a heart attack on October 27, 1987.
