Description: Officer Horn Cloud was dismounting his horse when he was ambushed and shot by a suspect wanted for domestic abuse. The suspect was afraid that Officer Horn Cloud had arrived at the South Dakota Pine Ridge Reservation to arrest him and opened fire on the officer. Although wounded with a gunshot wound to the back, Officer Horn Cloud was able to ride away to safety. Officer Horn Cloud died of his injuries three days later. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
