Description: Deputy Hicks was shot and killed as he and Deputy Ralph Coffey responded to a disturbance call concerning a mentally disturbed suspect. As Deputy Hicks and Deputy Coffey exited their patrol car, the suspect opened fire. Deputy Hicks was struck in the face and killed instantly. Deputy Coffey was struck in the face and back but survived. The suspect was apprehended after a three-hour standoff.
