Description: Deputy Sheriff Hans was fatally shot with his own weapon when he responded to a domestic disturbance call. When Deputy Hans arrived at the scene and intervened, the suspect overpowered Deputy Hans, gained control of the service weapon and shot him. Deputy Hans was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Deputy Hans was posthumously awarded the Jefferson County Medal of Honor.
