Description: Jailer Harris was shot by an inmate who was attempting to escape from the county jail. The inmate, who was convicted of the murders of Prohibition Agent Jacob Green (16-W: 12) and Richton Town Marshal William Dunnam (42-W: 30), was sentenced to be executed by hanging. Jailer Harris gained control of the smuggled weapon and fatally shot the inmate. Jailer Harris walked from the jail to the Sheriff's Office where he recounted the incident and then died.
