Description: Sergeant Hedrick was shot at point blank range without provocation as he attempted to question a man regarding shots fired in the vicinity. Sergeant Hedrick and his partner were in their patrol cruiser and approached two men who were standing on the sidewalk. One of the men suddenly produced a gun and shot Sergeant Hedrick in the head as he sat in the cruiser. Detective Shannon returned fire and wounded the suspect who was taken into custody. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
