Description: Sheriff Hecker suffered a heart attack several hours after placing a mentally deranged suspect into protective custody. Sheriff Hecker and a deputy answered a call at a residence concerning the suspect who was diagnosed as bi-polar. The suspect refused to walk and had to be physically lifted by Sheriff Hecker and the deputy several times from inside the residence to the patrol car. Several hours later, Sheriff Hecker did not feel well and transported himself to the hospital where he collapsed. Sheriff Hecker remained hospitalized until his death a week later.
