Description: Sergeant Helus was shot as he and another officer responded to an active shooter call with multiple fatalities at a bar that was occupied by nearly 200 college students in Thousand Oaks, California. Sergeant Helus and the second officer made entry into the bar and was met by gunfire. The officer pulled Sergeant Helus from the building. Sergeant Helus was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Eleven people were also shot and killed during the incident and several others were wounded. The shooter committed suicide.
