Description: Sheriff Howard, accompanied by three of his deputies, set out to serve a warrant for the manufacture of illegal liquor. As they approached the house, the officers were shot at and they returned fire. Sheriff Howard was shot from the rear and died at the scene. Two of the suspects died in the altercation; several escaped; and three were jailed.
