Description: Deputy Harper was shot as he and Justice of the Peace O. Hager escorted two suspects to the Sheriff's Office. One of the men asked if he could retrieve his coat and was allowed to do so. The man pulled a gun from the coat and fired, striking Deputy Harper twice. Deputy Harper died at the scene. Justice Hager was wounded but returned fire. The suspects were convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
