Description: On May 13, 2014, Police Officer Howley responded to an emergency alarm at a daycare with a report of smoke in the building. Officer Howley entered the daycare, conducted a search and ensured that all persons had exited the building. While searching the building, Officer Howley was exposed to refrigerant from the HVAC system. Later that evening, Officer Howley felt ill and sought medical treatment. The next day, Officer Howley worked a six hour shift but left early and went home because he felt ill. Later that evening, Officer Howley was found unresponsive at his residence and was transported to the hospital where he died of a heart attack on May 14th.
