Description: On January 14, 1916, Patrolman Hyland was attempting to arrest three suspects for disorderly conduct when they attacked and beat him. On May 26, 1917, Patrolman Hyland died during surgery to remove the tumor that developed after the assault. The death register states the cause of death as cardiac paralysis due to tumor of brain with a contributory factor as blow on the head. Two suspects were arrested and charged with manslaughter.
