Description: Deputy Marshal J. N. Holsonback was shot and killed in an ambush after arresting a man for operating an illegal distillery near Boaz, Alabama. Deputy Marshal Holsonback and his son were returning to the jail when they were ambushed. Deputy Holsonback was killed instantly and his son was wounded. The suspect was arrested and charged with manslaughter and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
