Description: Patrolman Heffelfinger and Captain Bixler responded to a domestic disturbance call where a man had thrown his wife out of the house after a fight. The suspect, who was intoxicated, came to the door with a rifle and fired at the officers before fleeing out the back door. Patrolman Heffelfinger was shot on his left side, which shattered his ribs and spleen. He was taken to a local hospital where he developed pneumonia and died three days later.
