Description: Officer Hesterberg was killed in an automobile accident while he and his partner were transporting seven prisoners to the Spring Creek Correctional Center in Moose Pass, Alaska. The corrections van was struck head-on by a tractor trailer that crossed the center line and drove the prison van backwards over guardrail. Officer Hesterberg, who was driving the van, and four inmates died at the scene.
