Description: Sheriff Harber and his deputy were attempting to arrest Rupert Byler on a worthless check charge. While the officers were leading Byler from the house, the suspect's family attacked and disarmed the sheriff and deputy. At that point, Byler shot Sheriff Harber with a shotgun. The suspect and his wife hid in the woods for one month before surrendering. Sheriff Harber's wife, Jewel, was appointed acting sheriff to serve the remainder of his term.
