Description: Sergeant Hewitt was killed while he and two other deputies attempted to serve involuntary commitment papers on a man living in Asheville. The suspect approached the three deputies, opened fire then fled. Sergeant Hewitt was shot fatally and transported to a local hospital. The other two deputies pursued the suspect who committed suicide.
