Description: Officer Hartye, of the Sing Sing Correctional Facility, was killed when three long-term inmates, armed with smuggled revolvers, shot him during an escape from the prison hospital. Ossining Police Officer James Fagan was fatally shot in the chest when he and his partner attempted to arrest the convicts. One of the convicts was shot and killed and the other two were arrested. The two that were arrested were convicted and executed.
