Description: Deputy Haygood and City Marshal J.A. Couser were looking for a man wanted for murdering his wife. As Deputy Haygood stepped out of the automobile to apprehend the suspect, the man shot Deputy Haygood in the chest, killing him. Marshal Couser returned fire, wounding the suspect, who was then arrested. The suspect was tried in a court of law and executed for his crimes.
