Description: Struck by vehicle (officer was outside of vehicle when struck). Constable Hafer and his son, Officer Elmer Hafer, were on patrol at a local theater. Constable Hafer noticed a unidentified man staggering across the Ohio Highway. In danger of being hit, Constable Hafer attempted to pull the drunken man to safety. As he dragged the man to safety, they were both struck by a westbound truck. Both men were thrown to their deaths. Police Officer Elmer Hafer witnessed his father's death.
