Description: Sergeant Hutchens succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained five days earlier during a domestic dispute call. Sergeant Hutchens and a fellow officer responded to the scene where a suspect had confronted his ex-wife with a gun. The officers located the suspect behind a restaurant and gave chase into a thicket. The man drew a handgun and shot both officers; the gunman was fatally wounded in the incident. Sergeant Hutchens was critically wounded and taken to an area hospital, where he remained until his death five days later. The other officer recovered from the wounds he sustained in the incident.
