Description: Policeman Hinkle was shot with his own gun as he attempted to calm a group of rioting miners who had been drinking at a local saloon. One of the men grabbed Policeman Hinkle's service revolver and shot him. Policeman Hinkle died of his wounds the following morning. Two suspects were arrested. One of the suspects was removed from the jail and lynched by an angry mob.
