Description: Marshall Hopperton escorted Mr. Rice, a man who was drunk and disorderly, to the edge of town and ordered him to stay out of town while he is drinking. In retaliation, the suspect returned to town with a shotgun and challenged the marshal to a duel. Marshall Hopperton was killed by a shotgun blast to the stomach. Mr. Rice was shot three times by the marshal's revolver, but survived.
