Description: Sheriff Haycraft succumbed to a head injury sustained three days earlier when he was struck with a rock. Sheriff Haycraft responded to a disturbance call where several men were throwing stones at a group of soldiers. Sheriff Haycraft was struck in the head as he attempted to investigate. He was transported to the hospital and died of a fractured skull three days later. His assailant was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
