Description: On December 23, 1971, Officer Hawkins was shot while off-duty as he attempted to thwart a robbery of a 7-11 in Prince George's County, Maryland. Officer Hawkins had subdued the robber when his accomplice shot him from behind. Officer Hawkins never regained consciousness and died on February 15, 1972.
