Description: Patrolman Hedstrom was struck by a drunk driver as he was writing a ticket. Patrolman Hedstrom had pulled a motorist to the side of the road regarding a defective headlight. Patrolman Robert Pike was seated in the patrol car with emergency lights activated when the intoxicated driver slammed his truck into the patrol car at 87 mph, which crashed into the car that Patrolman Hedstrom had pulled over. That car then struck Patrolman Hedstrom. Patrolman Hedstrom died shortly after. Patrolman Pike suffered minor injuries. The intoxicated driver was killed.
