Description: Officer Holtman was opening the door to let a prisoner in the yard when he was struck from behind with a lead pipe. Officer Holtman never regained consciousness and died the following day. The inmate, who also stole Officer Holtman's revolver, keys, wallet and billy club, escaped but was later captured. The inmate was tried in a court of law and hung from the gallows.
