Description: Police Officer Hayes and Officer John Marynowitz were shot during a routine traffic stop when they stopped a vehicle regarding a damaged tail light. The passenger, who was in possession of cocaine, emerged from the vehicle and a struggle ensued. The suspect gained control of the officerŸ??s service revolver and shot both officers. Officer Hayes was transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the head and torso and died the following morning. Officer Marynowitz survived the incident but was rendered a paraplegic and suffered brain damage. The suspect was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death.
