Description: Deputy Sheriff Holman and a posse were attempting to arrest two men who were camping on the porch of a way station that was being built. Deputy Holman was shot by one of the men but was able to return fire and kill one of his attackers. Deputy Holman was transported home by the posse where he died two hours later. Another suspect was later arrested but charged only with vagrancy and the theft of a pig.
