Description: Deputies Helton and Marion Stapleton were shot when they attempted to serve a murder warrant. As the officers approached the residence, the suspect opened fire with a shotgun, killing Deputy Stapleton and seriously wounding Deputy Helton. Deputy Helton was transported to a local doctor where he succumbed to his injuries twelve days later.
