Description: Police Officer Hayes succumbed to complications of a gunshot wound sustained thirty years prior. On December 18, 1979, while responding to a complaint of two suspicious persons, Officer Hayes attempted to apprehend the suspects when a struggle ensued. One of the suspects grabbed Officer Hayes??® gun and shot him in the back. Officer Hayes was paralyzed from the waist down and died of complications from the injury on January 20, 2011.
