Description: Patrolman Hawkins was escorting two Galveston Dry Dock and Construction Company Officials from the Hutchings Sealy Bank. The group had picked up their payroll of six-thousand dollars. Two suspects confronted the group and shot Officer Hawkins twice. Officer Hawkins spent several weeks in the hospital; his health continued to deteriorate. He developed pneumonia and died. Patrolman Hawkins did not return to work and remained under doctors care until his death nine months later.
