Description: Patrolman Heaney was shot while struggling with a suspect who had just killed a gangster and shot several other people. Patrolman Heaney died at the scene. Patrolman Charles Teare was also shot by the suspect when he responded to the disturbance. Patrolman Teare died the next day. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in the electric chair. But before the sentence could be carried out, he escaped from Sing Sing prison in 1916, fatally shooting Prison Officer Daniel McCarthy and wounding another guard. The suspect was electrocuted for his crimes.
