Description: Ranger Hobbs was shot as he and Deputy Mallie Cleveland went to investigate a disturbance at Ranger Hobbs' farm where a mentally unstable man resided. The man, who had been shooting at members of his family, opened fire on Ranger Hobbs and Deputy Cleveland as they approached the house. The man then took a gun and ammunition from the deputy's patrol car and barricaded himself inside the house. He fired several shots at responding officers who then shot and killed him. Ranger Hobbs was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body where he remained until his death 12 days later. Deputy Cleveland survived his injuries.
