Description: Earlier the same morning, Deputy William Hunter had arrested John Wills for disorderly conduct. John's brother Henry Wills was not pleased about this and the Wills brothers thought that the arrest was unjustified. On his way home, Deputy Hunter passed Henry Will's shop. Henry confronted him and they argued. Henry reached to his waist. Deputy Hunter, believing Henry was reaching for a gun, fired several shots, striking him. Henry [who was unarmed] fled into his store, grabbed a pistol and shot Deputy Hunter in his lower abdomen. Deputy Hunter died of his injuries two days later. Henry Wills pleaded self defense and was acquitted of any wrongdoing on appeal.
